Watch Wearing Wednesday: The LaCoste 12:12

For this watch wearing Wednesday, my LaCoste 12:12 Silicone Strap watch is still going strong. That's probably a good thing because basic black LaCoste watches are hard to find on Amazon right now. They've got LaCoste watches in every other shape and color right here on Amazon.

This watch is a wonderful representative of minimalist watch style from a fashion brand. You can read my full review here on this blog! I continue to like this watch due to its grab and go simplicity and ease of wear.

Sharp Watch Shout Out: LaCoste Tie Breaker Quartz Watch

If you are looking for a sharp, fashion, watch, LaCoste has you covered with the always stylish crocodile logo and high quality affordable watches.  The beautiful green sunray dial and matching green silicone strap of this LaCoste Tie Breaker watch combine to earn this timepiece a sharp watch shout out!

With a 43mm diameter case, this watch will have presence on your wrist. The color-coordinated silicone strap is 21mm wide  It has a three-hands and a date window. But, true to its fashion origin, it's not a true dive watch. The aluminum bezel is fixed and no depth rating is provided for the 10.5mm thick stainless steel case. Nevertheless, this is a quality quartz timepiece manufactured by the Movado Group.

Watch Wearing Wednesday: Mexican Food with my LaCoste 12:12 Quartz Watch

Sometimes an alligator (or crocodile) gets hungry and you have to feed it.  Such was the case recently, when I wore my LaCoste 12:12 quartz watch out on the town.  You can tell the little guy is famished at 3 o'clock!

The LaCoste Crocodile Logo on the LaCoste 12:12 Quartz Watch

Since this basic black LaCoste watch is always fashionable and ready to go, it was no problem to take him out to a local Mexican restaurant.  Here he is lurking suspiciously near our appetizer chips and salsa.  Stay out of my salsa pond crocodile . . .

Finally, the main course arrived. I opted for a shredded chicken chimichanga which came with rice and a small tortilla bowl of a pico, guacamole, and sour cream.  From the LaCoste's gaping jaws, I'd imagine it was after the chicken.

While this was just a silly outing with a favorite casual watch, you can read my full review of the LaCoste 12:12 quartz watch here.  For an assortment of LaCoste watches for men (including the current LaCoste 12:12 TR90) bang it here for LaCoste Men's Watches on Amazon.

Wristwatch Review: Men's LaCoste 12.12 Water Resistant Quartz Watch

When my wife finds a cool watch on her shopping adventures, she often gets it for me.  On a recent shopping adventure at Ross, she struck gold with this Men's LaCoste 12.12 quartz watch.  It's an attractive casual watch, that's perfect for wear as a weekender watch or in a business casual environment.

LaCoste 12.12 Quartz Watch

Watch Features and Construction

The LaCoste 12.12 is a minimalist watch with an hour, minute, and second hand, in a 42mm composite (plastic) material case with a silicone rubber strap.  It has a stainless steel caseback, a mineral crystal, and water resistance to 5 BAR (50 meters).  You can shower, watch dishes, and potentially go swimming, but it's not made for protracted activity in the water.

The case is made of TR90 a plastic composite material.  It's a thermoplastic that is hypo-allergenic.  Commonly used in eye-glass frames, it is known for having a little flexibility and resisting damage.  In a watch case, it doesn't seem bendable.

The LaCoste 12.12 has an etched stainless steel caseback.  Typically the caseback design offers an image of a folded LaCoste shirt or their iconic Alligator logo.

Watch Dimensions

The LaCoste 12.12 has a case diameter that comes in at 42mm and a case thickness of 9.8mm.  The strap is about 20mm wide.  The silicone strap fit me snugly and could probably be just a tad longer.

Overall Impression

The LaCoste 12.12 is very different from my LaCoste Club Watch.  It has a more sporty, compact, design.  It's a bang around watch for people who like to bang around fashionably.  The LaCoste brand gives the watch a positive connotation of quality.  As a Florida alumnus, I also love the little alligator of the LaCoste logo.  Overall, I like this watch and can see myself wearing it regularly.

Watch Photos: LaCoste Club Watch for Men

As I've been wearing the LaCoste Club watch more often over the last few days, I've had a chance to take a few more photos and capture a little more detail about this watch.  You can read my full review here.

LaCoste Alligator Logos on the LaCoste Club Watch

The Crown of the LaCoste Club Watch
You can't have a LaCoste product without the Lacoste Logo.  The LaCoste Club watch is no exception.  The watch features the iconic LaCoste Alligator in a few places on the watch.  One of the most important locations is on the crown.  Under magnification, you can even see a few extra details like the scutes and eyes of the alligator.

The Clasp of the LaCoste Club Watch

Another key area where the logo appears is on the push-button deployant clasp.  The all stainless steel bracelet and clasp is very smooth and comfortable.

I liked that this watch is comfortable and fits my wrist perfectly.

The Caseback and Pushbutton Deployant Clasp
One final place that this watch features the LaCoste Alligator logo is the caseback itself.  I've used a photo from Amazon to show this portion of the watch.  As you can see, the LaCoste logo is prominently featured along with some information about the watch itself.

Watch Review: LaCoste Club Watch for Men

Minimalist watches have been a bit of a trend over the past couple of years.  Brands like MVMT have been on the forefront of minimalist design.  They offer a variety of elegant minimalist designs.  But, you don't see many of their watches in stores.  If you are looking for a minimalist watch from a more familiar brand, you might check out the LaCoste Club Watch.  My wife was fortunate to find this LaCoste watch for me at a Burlington Coat Factory for a fraction of the prices listed on Amazon or traditional department stores.

The LaCoste Club Men's Watch

Watch Features

What can you list as a watch feature on a minimalist watch?  This one features the LaCoste Logo at 12 o'clock and a date window at 6 o'clock.  The hours are market with simple shiny silver batons.

It has an hour hand, a minute hand, and a second hand.  It also has a comfortable band that feels smooth and cool against the wrist.

Most of all, it features a simple and elegant look.  You'll find the LaCoste trademark alligator logo on the dial, the crown, the caseback, and the bracelet clasp.  For more photos of the LaCoste Club watch and these details, bang it here.

Watch Construction

The LaCoste Club watch features a stainless steel case and bracelet. The dial is protected by a mineral crystal. According to the caseback, the watch has 3 BAR (30 meters) of water resistance.  It's enough water resistance to ward off a little rain and wash your hands.  But, this is a dressy watch for the office or a night out, not a watch for SCUBA diving.

It looks just great on the table at my local P.F. Changs.  As a small drawback, I do find that the watch does tend to collect smudges or fingerprints on the crystal.  But, a quick wipe of a napkin or on a shirt fixes it right up.

Watch Dimensions

A profile view of the watch shows its thin case
The LaCoste Club watch has a 42mm diameter case that appears to be about about 8mm thick.  It's a nice thin watch that would fit under the cuff of his shirt.  The watch bracelet is 20mm wide at the lugs and tapers to about 17mm for the trip around the wrist.

The length of the bracelet is generous and I found that it fit my wrists perfectly without any modification.

These proportions are great for wearing to the office or to functions requiring a long-sleeved dress shirt.

Overall Impression

In general, I really like this watch.  It's a nice lightweight watch with solid construction and a band that feels smooth against the skin.  It's a great value and a heck of a find at the low (sub-$50) price point offered by Burlington.  At conventional retail outlets, the LaCoste Club Watch is still a good watch at current price points.  As a familiar brand, it also checks all the boxes for the minimalist look.

LaCoste Watches at Macy's

Every once in awhile, a luxury watch brand catches my eye.  I recently passed through a Macy's department store and spotted some interesting looking watches.  For their sheer simplicity, these LaCoste watches caught my eye.

They appear to have high quality bands and clean faces.  As a Florida Gator, I also approve of the logo on the dial.

[Blogger's update 2024:  I recently received a LaCoste watch as a gift.  You can read my review here.]
