Today (August 31st) is College Colors Day!

College football season is starting again!  According to ESPN, today is wear your college colors day. For me, that means digging out an orange and blue polo shirt and finding a Florida Gators watch.  I might wear this GameTime Agent watch . . .

If you'd like to get a similar watch, check out these University of Florida watches from Amazon:

A Timex Expedition - Liberating Europe Locally

The Timex Expedition brand evokes action and adventure.  My Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Field Watch evokes the greatest generation, World War II, and the greatest crusade.  It seems like a bit of a shame to wear a Timex Expedition around the house.  So, one Saturday morning, I decided to liberate Europe by finding local landmarks with European flair!

My Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Field Watch

First, I marched on Paris - or at least a French boutique - where I found this miniature Eiffel Tower.

Then, with victory in hand, my mechanized unit moved like lightning to find our local Arc de Triomphe.  I call it, the Arc de Whatever.  Atlanta actually calls it the Millenium Gate.

It was a worthy destination for my field watch and a fun way to show it off! Click the link for my full review of the Timex Expedition Vintage Metal watch.

All the Angles of the Relic Jake Sport Watch Photos

Watches don't have to be expensive in order to have innovative designs.  For example, the Relic "Jake" men's analog watch with black rubber strap sounds pretty utilitarian by description.  But, it has one of the coolest watch crystal designs ever.  The crystal is blue and is cut to have angled facets.  The pictures speak for themselves:

[Update:  Amazingly, as of 1/6/2024, the Relic Jake sport watch is still available on Amazon at a very attractive price.  If you'd like to check one out, check this link to Relic Jake on Amazon.]

LaCoste Watches at Macy's

Every once in awhile, a luxury watch brand catches my eye.  I recently passed through a Macy's department store and spotted some interesting looking watches.  For their sheer simplicity, these LaCoste watches caught my eye.

They appear to have high quality bands and clean faces.  As a Florida Gator, I also approve of the logo on the dial.

[Blogger's update 2024:  I recently received a LaCoste watch as a gift.  You can read my review here.]

A Merona Diver-Style Watch from Target

For $19.99, you can't really get much of a diver's watch.  But, you can get a pretty nice looking "Diver-style" watch.  This Merona Diver-Style Watch from Target looks good and is a steal for $19.99.  However, I wouldn't try to scuba dive with it!

You'll notice that the case shape has a passing similarity to that of higher end dive watches like this Citizen Promaster Aqualand:

Perhaps you see a bit of this Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean in the humble Merona?

An Attractive Armitron at Walmart

I noticed a cool looking Armitron watch in the case at Walmart.  It appears to have a very sophisticated looking rendition of the classic black canvas or nylon strap.  Of course, the strap is in "tactical black" the official color of manly men everywhere.  The label says it is made of steel, that it's ionic plated, and that it's water resistant to 165 feet.  It's a cool looking watch and a good deal at $45, but there's no counter help at Walmart in the wee hours of the morning.

Here's another amazing looking silver-tone Armitron that I found at an affordable price.  [This one ended up joining my collection and as of 2024 remains a favorite watch.]

Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Field Watch Review

Need to liberate France? Here's the watch to wear - the Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Field Watch. It's got the classic looks of a vintage military field watch from World War II.
A Retro Field Watch from Timex

With a weathered brown leather band and a retro dial, it really looks like something that the greatest generation would have worn during their crusade to liberate Europe.  But, beneath the vintage looks, this watch incorporates a modern quartz movement and Indiglo lighting technology.

If you'd like to buy this watch or another classic Timex military watch, you can find it here:

The wonderful thing about Timex Watches is that anyone can afford to collect them.  Vintage Timex watches are not overly expensive.  High end Timex watches are not overly expensive.  Yet, they come in an endless variety of styles.  If you'd like to discuss Timex watches (especially vintage ones), here is a forum you should check out -

If you think you know all there is to know about Timex, check them out again. Their TX series of watches offers precision engineering and amazing capabilities that rival any high end watchmaker.

Casio Men's Dive Watch: A Great Beater

Would you really jump in the ocean while wearing an $8,000 to $12,000 watch?  I'm not sure that I would.  I'd look into a nice beater watch.  I recently saw this Casio Men's Sport Analog Dive Watch (Model MRW200H-7EV) at Kmart on sale for about $20.  It would have been a great buy, but I didn't need to add it to my watch box.

These inexpensive Casio's are water-resistant to 100 meters, have rotating bezels, and reportedly have good "lume" on the hands and numbers.  Casio also makes slightly more expensive dive watches with even greater water resistance.  They are all great bargains.

A Thre3 watch with elegance, style, and Kmart Pricing!

If you look through the vintage watch listings on ebay, you'll see where people are clearly willing to pay a little bit for an older watch in great condition.  This Thre3 watch from Kmart offers much of the same style in a convenient quartz package for less than $25.

An Elegant Thre3 watch!

Thre3 is a brand established by the U.S. Polo Association. If you like the Thre3 brand style, check out U.S. Polo Assn watches!

[While you might not be able to find the Thr3 brand on store shelves now and Kmart is long gone, you can still find plenty of US Polo Assn watches here on Amazon and in stores.]
