Watch Workshop: Easy Fixes for A Casio MRW-210H Watch

The Casio MRW-210 is a great casual diver-style watch with a large readable dial and a resin case and strap. I originally reviewed it here in this post. The resin watch strap deteriorated over the last 9 years and eventually became unusable and the watch battery died. However, the case seemed to have plenty of life left and the other two issues are easily fixed. Here is a photo of the watch way back in the day when it was just a smoldering hotspot in my wallet.

Casio MRW-210H Analog Watch

The nearest available Casio model on Amazon is the Casio MRW-200H Analog Watch available here via my Amazon affiliate link.

Replacing the Battery in a Casio MRW-210H Watch

The caseback came off easily with the removal of four small screws. The replacement battery number is 399 (SR927W or SR927SW).  You can find it on our watch battery page.

Casio MRW-210H Watch Movement & Renata watch battery

On a cautionary note, every battery compartment seems to have a few metal bits designed to hold the battery in position and close the circuit so that power flows from the battery to the watch. I try not to bend any of the fiddly bits too much.

Replacing the Watch Strap on a Casio MRW-210H Watch

Since the old strap was gone, I ordered an inexpensive new one as a replacement.  It's a cobee silicone watch band and it's available on Amazon for a less than $10. It is a silicone strap with plenty of adjustments and quick release spring bars to make installation easy and strap swaps a cinch. I bought the 20mm wide strap and it fit perfectly.

Watch Spotlight: Men's Tissot Luxury Powermatic 80 Automatic

If the horological world has a fishing anology, it's waiting for Swiss watches to become truly affordable. Not $7500 is affordable, but actually affordable for almost everyone. One of the brands that I watch is Tissot. I wait and I wait and when the price of a Tissot Automatic watch drops below $400, I tell all my readers.  Well, I'm glad to announce that the price of a Tissot Luxury watch with a Powermatic 80 movement has dropped to a little under $400.

Tissot Luxury Powermatic 80

This Tissot Powermatic 80 is well proportioned with a 41mm diameter case that is 9.75mm thick. It has an exhibition caseback, a rich gold-tone bezel, and a push button deployant clasp.

Tissot Luxury Powermatic 80

Overall, this looks like a well constructed Swiss watch.  Usually Tissot watches with the Powermatic 80 command are far more expensive.  That's why you have to get them when the getting is good! Check out this watch using my Amazon Affiliate link below:

Sharp Watch Shout Out: Timex Harborside Coast 43mm with Herringbone Strap

I just found a very cool Timex Harborside Coast on Amazon.  It has a green, black, and gunmetal color combination that includes a herringbone fabric strap. The Harborside is typically thought of as an homage watch, but with this combination of colors and fonts, Timex goes all the way up the river and wins its own way. I like it. That's why this one gets a sharp watch shout out!

Timex Harborside Coast with herringbone strap

This pricing of this Timex watch is very competitive. It lists for half the price of some more traditional Rolex homage harborside watches.  If you'd like to take a look at this one, please use my Amazon affiliate link here.

Watch Workshop: Changing the battery in a Nautica NST-15 watch

I recently revived my old Nautica NST-15 watch with a new battery. The watch has a bright yellow strap that is perfect for summer. It also has an innovative retrograde calendar that runs  counterclockwise along a date track on the interior portion of the dial. It's pretty cool, but I have to set it properly.

Nautica NST-15 watch for men

Removing the Nautica NST-15 Caseback

Removing the caseback was easy using a caseback removal tool. I have a tool like the one shown below.  It's available via my Amazon affiliate link here. You just adjust the blue tool to fit the indents on the case and unscrew it in a counterclockwise direction.

Wellfit Watch Back Removal Tool (Amazon photo)

The caseback reveals that the watch is made for Nautica by Timex. It's a minor factoid that I'll remember.

Nautica NST-15 Caseback reveals the manufacturer.

Replacing the Watch Battery

The watch is powered by a Miyota 2353 No Jewel Movement that has an accuracy of +/- 20 seconds per month. It uses a standard 377 (SR626SW) battery that is pretty easy to replace. For replacement batteries, check out my battery selection page.

Miyota 2353 No Jewel Movement in a Nautica NST-15 watch

When changing the battery there are a couple of metal pieces that can ever so slightly be pushed aside to release the battery. I think I was able to slightly move the piece on the right that lies atop the battery. The tiniest bit of movement was sufficient.

The battery secured in the Miyota 2353 Movement

More on this watch

For more on this watch, check out my original Nautica NST-15 review post here. While this model has disappeared from Amazon in the US, you can still find it on various watch sites around the world. I'm glad to have it back in the rotation.

TGIF: How to Enjoy Watches You Can't Afford

Watch collecting is one hobby that regularly confronts you with the limits of your financial means. Quite simply for most of us, it raises our awareness of the existence of nice things that we can't possibly afford. Sometimes, it's almost painful. We can see the Rolex that seems so close, yet so far away, in post after post online, in watch collecting magazines, and in the web advertising that follows us around and haunts our online experiences. It can be demoralizing. But, it doesn't have to be. There are ways to enjoy watches you can't afford.

A Rolex Sea Dweller

First, consider the watches that are obvious status symbols. They are sometimes used as a weapon by flashy people who want to measure social status, rank, and class. People who use material possessions to bludgeon others with less wealth aren't being classy. They are being gauche. However, some of these status-symbol watch brands like Rolex have rich histories and are associated with some of our planet's greatest adventurers. As watch enthusiasts, we can focus on the connection between Rolex and heroines and heroes like Mercedes Gleitze, Jacques Cousteau, Sir  Edmund Hillary, Tenzing Norgay, Jacques Piccard, Don Walsh, and James Cameron. I also like to think of the many service personnel around the world who may have them as the result of earning combat and hardship pay in faraway lands. These status brands are actually about more than a flashy trust fund baby can even begin to appreciate.

Sir Edmund Hillary (circa 1953)

Second, think about the horological masterpieces from Breguet, Maximillian Buser and Friends, Constantin Vacheron, and RGM. These are watches that rise to the level of fine art. Fine art. For most of us, it's unrealistic to even contemplate owning fine art like a real Monet or Picasso. We won't be carting the Statue of David home from Florence for use in our garden statuaries anytime soon. Just as we can enjoy the aesthetics of fine art in a museum or in photographs online, we can enjoy the looks and mechanical mastery of high end luxury watches without owning them. We can also seek out art that we can afford and enjoy.

Swatch reminds us that not every fine art watch has to be expensive (Amazon photo)

What do we do with this knowledge? I think we relax. We can focus on watches that we can afford and not worry about the ones that we can't. If you can't afford a Rolex, you can bring elements of the Rolex style into the watches that you can afford. If you want the exact look, you can find it in an homage watch. You'll find five great Rolex Submariner homage watches collected here in my Amazon affiliate storefront.  If you like elements of the look, the iconic watches have inspired generations of independent designs that have dive watch looks. The luxury watch brands can serve as guidance and templates for the watches the rest of us actually wear.

Your watch is about you and your adventures!

Ten Dollar Tuesday: Soki Leather Strap Watch

If you don't think sales and marketing professionals add value to a brand, check out this catchy watch name:  "Men Minimalistic Leather Watches Quartz Wristwatch Business Watch Christmas Gifts."  It's mouthful for a $10 watch. This watches strong point is its style. The black dial contrasts well against a chrome style that contains subdials for 24-hour time and chronograph minutes.  The chronograph seconds are underslung at the 6 o'clock position. With military-style field watch fonts and a leather strap, it's kind of a cool look.

The Soki watch has 45mm diameter alloy case that is 10mm thick.  It also has a strap that is 22.5cm long. The dimensions seem generous.  That leaves only two questions:  do the sub-dials work and is this watch reliable? If the answers are yes, this is probably a pretty cool watch.  It's not too farfetched since the subdials on similar inexpensive Chinese watches seem to work.  If you're ready to risk your $10 and see, check it out here via my Amazon affiliate link.

Sponsored Spotlight: OLEVS Black and Gold Large Dial Square Dress Watch

This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

One of the brands that I've been interested in lately is OLEVS. They make a wide variety of wristwatches and they all display innovative styling, high build quality, and a strong sense of brand pride. I bought one of their Men's Business Casual Chronograph watches back in 2024 and I've enjoyed owning it. The brand differentiates itself from the horde of inexpensive Chinese watches with wonderful products. This is not a $10 Tuesday watch.

OLEVS Black and Gold Large Dial Square Dress Watch (Amazon Photo)

Recently, I discovered that they participate in Amazon Associates and Creators campaigns. These campaigns pay  higher commissions than traditional Amazon Associates links. That said, I wanted to find OLEVS watches that I could recommend that would fit in with this watch blog's affordability and quality theme.  In other words, it had to be affordable for visitors to this blog and a great value for the money. To make no mistake, I earn a commission from purchases made through this blog.  That said, I think I found the watch that checks all of our boxes.  OLEVS is offering this boldly-styled black and gold large dial square dress watch at a great price. I think this OLEVS watch earns a place in the spotlight.

OLEVS Black and Gold Large Dial Square Dress Watch (Amazon Photo)

There are seven reasons that this watch appeals to me.

  • The watch is large.
  • I like the elongated shape of the tonneau case.
  • I love the masculine energy of the black and gold color scheme (although it is available in 7 color combinations).
  • I also love the complications for the moon-phase, date, 24 hour time, and chronometer.
  • I appreciate that the watch is water resistant to 30-meters.
  • I like the strength of all stainless steel construction for the case and bracelet.
  • The price is right.

The dimensions of this watch give it presence and should fit me well. It has a 42mm diameter case that is 12.5mm thick. The stainless steel bracelet is 22mm wide and 20 centimeters long. That's a generous length considering the elongated case.

All in all, this is OLEVS watch is well worth considering. If you'd like to check it out, use my Amazon affiliate link here.

Announcing The Watch Dude Amazon Page

Over the years, I've been looking for ways to present watches that I own, that I like, or that I dream about owning with fellow watch enthusiasts. I'm currently active here on blogger, on Twitter, and a little bit on Pinterest. Now, I've discovered the capability to create an Amazon page.  It can serve as a "General Store" for this corner of the watch world.

General Store photo by Greg Gjerdingen,
CC BY 2.0 <https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0>, via Wikimedia Commons

This will allow me to showcase my watch photos and link them to products that you can get on Amazon. Photo show & tell is not something that Google particularly likes me to do. It also let's me bring together idea lists of related products (like minimalist watches) or make collages to support various themes and present them to you.

Sport & Dive Watches on Amazon

As a creator, I find that fun.  As readers, you may find it an easy way to find great choices in various watch themes. That's why I'd like to introduce Watch Dude's Amazon Page! I hope you enjoy it and bookmark it.  It will be a dynamic Amazon page with lots of new content.  The Amazon page is something that can help support this blog by bringing products together. But, this blog will continue on because it's the place to think and reason about watches and watch topics. Enjoy!

Amazon Haul or How I Made My Cheapest Watch Purchase EVER!

During my quest for $10 watches, I discovered a new online outlet on Amazon.  It's called Amazon Haul. They have lots of deals on watches--particularly inexpensive watches from Asia. Many of the brands that you see on Amazon for $10 or less are on Amazon as well.  Despite having Amazon Prime, you still have to pay low fees for shipping.  But, the savings can still be quite significant.  For example, I bought a watch for 1 cent.  Yes, $0.01.  Even with a $3.99 shipping fee, the watch only cost me $4.00. That's super cheap! It's even cheaper than the Youyoupifa Best Birthday watch that I posted about here back in 2015.

Ruige Automatic Watch for Men

The watch I bought is a Ruige Automatic Watch for men.  It's a diver-style watch that normally retails on Amazon for $70. It has a rotating uni-directional bezel, a transparent caseback, and sun/moon, day, date, and 24-hour time sub-dials in an attractive two-tone stainless steel case with a blue dial and gold-tone accents.  Of course, even as I write this, the watch has disappeared off of the Haul website and can only be found on Amazon.

Fortunately, there are plenty of watches on Amazon Haul. This Poedagar multifunction watch with moonphase complication is priced at less than $4! It's rather comically listed as "Men Watch Fashion Sport Men's Wristwatch Waterproof Luminous Leather Date Quartz Watches Man Clock."

It's always interesting to see what you can get for your money with deals like these.  You can get this inexpensive watch here via my affiliate link on Amazon Haul.

Amazon Haul has lots of different watch deals to choose from and all of them are less than $40.  If you'd like to see all the men's watches on Haul, visit using my Amazon affiliate link!

TGIF: Watches ARE an Accessory

This Friday rumination is to remind people that watches are fashion accessories. Sometimes I think that many watch enthusiasts think of watches as THE thing. If they can just attain that elite watch, that will automatically convey upon them--wealth, status, and class. But, the watch doesn't provide any of those things. The watch is a byproduct of those things.

A Rolex Datejust

If you have wealth, your watch is a byproduct of that wealth. If you have status, your watch might reflect it. For example, a company owner might have a better watch than the company's rank and file employees. If you have class, you might wear a watch that reflects taste and an appreciation for the finer points of horological  heritage.

An Orient Bambino

A luxury watch by itself is a bit of an anomaly. As I've explored on this blog before, there are many appealing aspects of a luxury watch. However, a watch alone is not a path to instant respect. Respect is earned through achievements. Achievements in the military, business, entrepreneurship, education, family, the arts, athletics, charity and religion accumulate over time. Achievements, personal conduct, and ethics help form your reputation and, to be a bit too trendy, your personal brand.

Rolex Sea Dweller

To symbolize class or rank or wealth, a luxury watch also needs to be accompanied by a suitable wardrobe, car, home, and boat. In other words, a luxury watch is just one of the coolest trappings of wealth. Alternatively, an adventurous watch is the perfect complement to the way veterans and military members dress and carry themselves. Experience in far away place with nowhere to spend a paycheck can lead to some nice watches.

Your watch can reflect your personality, taste, and values. But, you have to do you. If you want the respect, become that elite SCUBA diver and have some adventures. If you want status, climb that corporate ladder.  If you want wealth, start that business and succeed. The watches can follow.

The Hundred Dollar Grail: A Good Skeleton Watch

It seems like every watch collector needs at least one skeleton watch. There is just something cool about having a watch that lets you see through the dial and caseback and observe the mechanism at work. I was fortunate to find a great skeleton watch at Walmart (read about it in this post) early in my watch collecting efforts and then receive an ornate skeleton pocket watch as well. But, the question is - can watch collectors on a budget still find affordable skeleton watches today? I've found one that fits our $100 budget.

Relic Men's Skeleton Watch

The Fossil brand Relic has a skeleton watch for 49% off. It's has a 42mm diameter case that is 14mm thick. It's quite practical for a skeleton watch with readable hands and markers that should make this one a very practical choice.  It has an automatic movement that can be hand-wound if the watch stops.

The discounts bring the price of this timepiece in under $90. To see it, click here on my Amazon affiliate link.

Affordable Watches for Father's Day 2026

Father's Day is Sunday, June 21, 2026, and a watch is always an appropriate gift for the occasion.  A watch is both functional and a keepsake.  But, in these inflationary times, finding a watch that is a nice gift and affordable on a child or young adult budget can be a challenge. I've put together a list of a few watches that are both affordable and respectable as gifts. Here are three watches that cost $50 or less that will be great Father's Day gifts.

1. Timex Expedition

The Timex Expedition is currently on sale for 34% off and it is being offered at an awesome price.  It's less than $25! If you are on a kid's budget, this is the watch to buy.

Timex Expedition Scout (Amazon Photo)

This watch has a 40mm diameter case, 50 meters of water resistance, Indiglo backlighting, and a fabric strap. You can get it here via my affiliate link.

2. Timex Easy Reader

This Timex Easy Reader can ship quickly and costs less than $50. This one has a 35mm diameter case, 30 meters of water resistance, and a date window.

Timex Easy Reader (Amazon Photo)

You can see this one here via my affiliate link and, if you poke around, you can find many other color and case size combinations.

3. Casio Enticer

The Casio Enticer (Model MTP-VD01D-1BV) is one of the nicest looking budget-priced watches around. It still costs $50 or less and it looks great. I've got a similar model in blue and you can read my full review in my post here.

Casio Enticer MTP-VD01D-1BV (Amazon Photo)

To get the Casio Enticer, you can find it here via my Amazon affiliate link. For more great Father's Day watch ideas, poke around on this blog. Most of the watches highlighted in my posts are very affordable.

Wristwatch Review: Bulova Men's Dress Classic Multifunction Watch with Diamonds

Sometimes when you see a cool watch, you have to be ready to pounce.  That's how I got my Bulova Men's Dress Classic Multifunction Watch with Diamonds. It was surprised to see it sitting under the glass at a local Ross store one night and I did a double-take. It was a little more expensive than most Ross finds, but it was a great deal for a Bulova watch. I hemmed and hawed and then my wife made me go get it.  The Model is 96D143 and it is still available with online retailers like Walmart. The little diamonds aren't usually my style and the watch was a little large for me so I let it languish in my watch box for a long while.

Bulova Men's Dress Classic Multifunction Watch (96D143)

The diamonds grew on me over the years. Now, I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on this one and bought it. With a return to office life, this Bulova is now one of the nicest timepieces in my regular rotation of watches.

Bulova Dress Classic Multifunction Features

This Bulova has three subdials to provide the Date, Day, and 24-hour time. It has eight tiny diamonds working as hour markers.

Bulova Dress Classic Multifunction Watch with Subdials & Diamond Markers

The watch has a stainless steel case and bracelet secured to the wrist via a deployant clasp.

Bulova Dress Classic Showing Deployant Clasp and Stainless Steel Construction

Bulova Classic Style

This watch has a very upscale look and feel. The tiny diamonds also  increase the visibility and readability of the watch. The bracelet style makes great use of flat finished stainless outer links and highly polished inner connecting links.

Bulova Men's Dress Classic Multifunction Watch Stainless Steel Bracelet

I removed a link or two from the generously-sized integrated bracelet and it fit perfectly.

One strange thing about this watch is that it does have a dial texture and color. It has vertical stripes on the dial created by a wave pattern. The dial is also deep green. However, the watch often appears to have a black dial and the udulations in the dial don't really show up in casual wear or photography. You can barely see the stripes in this posts top photo. The pattern shows up much more easily in the Amazon photo shown below.

Bulova Dress Classic Multifunction Watch with Diamonds (96D143) - Amazon Photo

In daily office work wear, I find that this watch has a professional and successful look.

Bulova Classic Watch Construction

This Bulova watch has a stainless steel caseback, bracelet, and case. It also has a mineral glass crystal that seems ever so slightly convex. The watch offers 30-meters of water resistance.

Deployant Clasp and Bulova Fit and Finish

All metal on this watch seems well constructed for comfort. You don't get any sharp bits or arm hair pulling from this watch. The high quality finish of this watch separates it from budget-oriented brands.

Bulova Dress Classic Watch Dimensions

The Bulova Dress Classic Watch with Diamonds is perfectly sized for office and formal wear. The case is 42mm in diameter and 10mm thick. The bracelet is 20mm wide and can fit lengths from 140mm to 220mm long.

Overall Impressions of the Bulova Dress Classic

I've grown quite fond of this watch due to its distinctive look, comfortable fit, and apparent quality. It's great for the business casual office where it is eye-catching, but not a distraction. It's a stylish bit of luxury from a respectable brand that does not constitute an ostentatious display of wealth or social status. If you can find a deal on it, this is a great watch to add to your Bulova Collection.

Bulova Dress Classic Multifunction Watch with Subdials & Diamond Markers

Where to Buy the Bulova Dress Classic

This Bulova watch is listed, but not currently offered for sale on Amazon. However, it does appear on the Walmart.com and other online sales sites.

Watch Spotlight: Casio MTP1183E Analog Watch with Date

It's not often that you see a Casio watch with the style of a timeless classic, but I found one.  It's the Casio MTP1183E Water Resistant Watch with Date. I know. I know. A catchy beautiful name would help them sell more watches. Then, they could charge more, too.  Let's take the cool watch and a great price.  It's a basic Casio analog watch with 50-meter water resistance, a simple date window, and a mineral glass crystal. Voila!

Casio MTP1183E Analog Watch with Date

To me, there is something special about the shape and the patina of the case and the simplicity of the dial, that gives this watch a classic look. To see it for yourself, use my affiliate link to it on Amazon. You might see what I see. I've added it to my wishlist.

TGIF: Shop Your Watch Box

One way to save money on watches is to replace the batteries in quartz watches that have died and that haven't been worn for awhile. I pulled out one of my old watch boxes that had been packed away for a bit and found this Wenger Swiss Military Grenadier quartz watch. Since I had stored it in the nice box it came in, the watch really looked like new.

A Wenger Swiss Military Watch

I originally bought this watch for just $99 at a TJ Maxx store. I figure I saved about $95 by replacing a battery and NOT buying a new watch. Of course, that was before I saw this new Wenger.

Wenger Seaforce in Black (Amazon photo)

It's the Wenger Seaforce and it has 200-meters of water resistance. That's not going to change my course. I'll let that beauty stay right where it was on Amazon here at my affiliate link. I'm not buying it. I've got lots of watches that need new batteries.

Watch Spotlight: Invicta Men's Pro Diver Quartz Watch

With Father's Day rapidly approaching, it's time to remind everyone that the Invicta Men's Pro Diver Quartz watch makes a great gift. Inspired by the iconic Rolex Submariner, the Invicta Pro Diver offers 200-meters of water resistance, a unidirectional rotating bezel, a cyclops magnifier over the date window. Best of all, it's affordable. At just over $50, the watch looks good and fits sensible middle class budgets. This two-tone Invicta Pro Diver Quartz watch gets 4.7 stars on Amazon in over 7000 ratings. It's a great watch for the world most of us actually live in.

To check this watch out, use my affiliate link to see it on Amazon.

People who pay $5,000 to $25,000 for a watch often malign Invicta watches. But, most of us don't live in their world. If you research Invicta, you'll find they offer a wide variety of fun watches at affordable prices. I wouldn't pay hundreds for an Invicta, but they have many great choices in the $30 to $130 price range. For more information, read my post about why I think it's time to look at Invicta again

TGIF: What to do about minimalism in watches!

When it comes to watches, minimalism is an interesting topic. There are a couple of different ways that it can go. You can have minimalist watches that eliminate unnecessary design elements and reduce a watch to the bare essentials. Alternatively, you can have a personal minimalist philosophy that reduces the number of watches you have to one or two watches that work very well for you.

Bulova Quartz Classic

For a truly minimalist watch, you could have a watch that has minimal hands and minimal markers like my Orient Bambino (below). It's influenced by that German Bauhaus design philosophy that your father might scoff at. It simplifies the watch. You can read my complete review of the Orient Bambino, Second Generation, Version 3, here on this blog. It's a high quality mechanical watch with no design excess.
