A Sharp DIgital Watch with an All Metal Look

If you like the looks of heavy duty watches that look like they were machined from solid blocks of steel, you might like the Sharp Metal Digital Watch from Kmart.  The watch looks like it's all brushed stainless, but it has a stainless steel caseback and base metal case.  Here's a complete review:

The Coolest Ana-Digital Watch from the US Polo Association brand Thre3

Some watches just look fast.  They have a certain purposeful style that exudes speed and adventure.  I recently got a watch that would look great if I were a motorcycle racer like Toni ElĂas.

But, it has looks that would be more in keeping with a Ferrari at speed. . .

Fortunately, my watch costs considerably less than a vintage race car.  It's an ana-digital watch from the US Polo Association's Thre3 brand.

The Secret Life of a Watch Dude

Ever since high school, I have liked the James Thurber short story "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty."  It's about a man who daydreams of adventure while handling the mundane chores of life.  As a bit of daydreamer, I've always identified with the story.  As a watch collector, I find that each of my watches evokes a certain daydream and the possibility of grander adventures.  When you strap on a watch, you can momentarily be a soldier, a deep sea diver, a mountain climber, a sea captain, or a pilot with every glance at your wrist.

Do you feel the same way about watches in your collection?  For example, if you were or wanted to feel like one of the guys in the picture below, which of your watches would you be wearing?

In this case, I'd probably pick my Timex Expedition Core Analog Watch.  It has that all black diver-style look with luminous hands.

So, what's your favorite watch for super-secret commando raids?

Thre3 Analog Watches by US Polo Association

If you want a simple, but elegant, analog watch, you might try the Thre3 brand by US Polo Association.  These watches are available in a variety of retail locations.  However, I most recently had good luck at Kmart.  Of the analog watches by Thre3, I liked this one the best:

Thr3 Analog Watch by US Polo Assn

It's a good looking watch for $20 to $25.  Unfortunately, the designs don't actually appear to be luminous.  But, this one is quite readable and has a nice, dare I say, vintage look!  With 24-hour time inboard of each hour, this Thre3 watch also draws on the look of vintage military watch.  However, the US Polo Association logo in the 12 o'clock position brings you back to the Thre3 brands association with the sport of polo.  It's an unusual alliance between the sport of kings and Kmart shoppers.  It should be noted that the US Polo Association is not linked with Polo by Ralph Lauren.  However, it is actually linked to the governing body of the sport of Polo.

Casio Digital Watch Technology for Everyone

Casio makes some amazing high tech watches.  Their Edifice line of analog watches are wonders.  They make high end digital watches with incredible features.  But, one of the coolest things is that they make watches with amazing features for everyone.  For example, this Casio World Time Illuminator digital watch can show you a map of the world and the time in different timezones.  That's cool enough.  But, to do it all with a $25 watch with a 10-year battery life.  That's pretty awesome!

A New Watch for Tennis Star Rafael Nadal

An exclusive $370,000 Richard Mille watch was stolen from tennis star Rafael Nadal's hotel room.  Even worse, the watch was a loaner!  I can feel the tennis star's pain.  Plus, it would truly stink to be on the hook for a $370,000 watch.  Fortunately, I have a solution for Rafael Nadal.  He should check out the watches at Walmart.  I'd highly recommend he stick to cheap bang around watches.  He is an active, athletic, guy and there's no reason to risk a high dollar watch.

For only $10, I'd highly recommend what I call the "Walmart Tactical Watch."  It's a mighty manly watch for a very low price!  Here's the scoop on the watch theft:  Rafael Nadal's $370,000 Watch Stolen.

If you'd like to see a picture of the actual watch that was stolen from Nadal, check out this enter on TheAwesomer blog:  RM 027 Tourbillon Watch.

A Simple Black Watch from Walmart

Sometimes the inexpensive quartz watches at Walmart have a simple, basic, classic style that just works. There isn't much you can say about today's watch. It has a Japanese quartz movement, a date display, a stainless steel back, and a band and case with some sort of enamel (?) coating that gives the watch a very smooth feel and shiny finish. Not a bad value for less than $15.

Classic Aviator Watches

I'm not sure where it started--perhaps with World War I inspired round dial watches of Bell & Ross. A good example would be this Bell & Ross Vintage WW1 Mechanical Watch.

But, now the watch marketplace is filled with classic watches that are inspired by World War 1 and 2 aviation and adventure.

You can almost envision wearing one with a leather aviators jacket and a silk scarf.  As tempting as the adventure can be, the cost of keeping up can be daunting.  In May (2012), I found an interesting Merona quartz watch at Target with many of the same features for around $20.

In a rare display of self-discipline, I left it on the shelf.  But, it does successfully evoke those early 20th century adventurers.  I wonder what it would be like . . .

Geneva Watch Group Scrolling Marquis Digital Watch

If you are looking for an inexpensive watch and want something a little different, you might try the watch department at Kmart.  I found an unusual watch there with a scrolling digital marquis screen.  It's definitely a novel way to present the time.  To learn more, read my full review:
