Watch Deal Alert: Timex Men's Southview Quartz Watch at 42% off.

If you are looking for a nice Timex, there are plenty of beautiful watches in the Timex Waterbury Collection, but sometimes Timex offers similar features in their regular watch collections.  For example, the Timex Men's Southview Quartz Watch has lines that are very similar to some of the watches in the Waterbury Collection.  It has a 41mm diameter brass case, a crown with a golden tone, and a nice genuine leather strap. The Roman number font has a simpler modern font and the dial is one color. Where the Waterbury collection embraces traditional and decorative details, this Southview embraces modernity and minimalism.

Timex Men's Southview Quartz Watch

The Timex Southview is a very respectable and functional watch that normally retails for around $70. But, now in August 2025, it's on sale for 42% off! That brings the price down to $40! That's a price from over a decade ago. You can get this price on the Timex Southview for a limited time at --

TGIF: Timex Street Watches - Highland Street and Fieldstone Way

It's Friday and time again to examine the map of Waterbury, Connecticut, in search of any secrets that might lie behind the street names of some Timex watches.

  • Highland Street
  • Fieldstone Way
Last week, we took a look at the list of Timex watches with street names and covered the South Street and Charles Street watches.

Highland Street

Our first watch is the Timex Highland Street Watch. It's the kind of no nonsense retro watch on an expansion bracelet that your aging father or grandfather would use to disdainfully tell you the proper time to set on your fancy Tudor Ranger. It's a little larger than the South Street from last week's post and it doesn't have 24-hour numbering because your dad isn't in the service anymore.

Timex Highland Street Quartz watch (Amazon Photo)

It has a 39mm diameter case, a stainless caseback and brass case, and a stainless expansion bracelet. There is a small date window at 3 o'clock. It has 50 meters of water resistance according to the dial. You also get the Indiglo night lighting function to make this watch more readable in the evening. If you'd like to take a look at this inexpensive watch, you can find it here on Amazon.

Highland Avenue, Waterbury CT, (Google Streetview)

I couldn't have a Highland Street in Waterbury, but I did find a Highland Avenue.

Fieldstone Way

The Timex Fieldstone Way kicks it up a notch with diver-style markings on the bezel. It's a 42mm diameter quartz watch that is 10mm thick. It's very similar to my Timex Tribute Citation Florida Gators Team Watch. The watch has a textured dial and a small date window at 3 o'clock.

Timex Fieldstone Way Watch

The Timex Fieldstone is on an attractive expansion bracelet that works well for most wearers. The watch is also available in black for cat burglars and commandoes. You can take a look at it here on Amazon.

I did find a Fieldstone Road in Waterbury, but there was no clear connection to Timex. Instead, it looked like a normal residential street.

A Google Map of Fieldstone Road in Waterbury

It quiet, too quiet. Maybe that's what they want us to think? ;-)

Searching for Watch Authenticity? Try the Timex Easy Reader

Lately, there have been many allegations that some of the world's most prestigious Swiss watch brands are actually selling watches that have largely been made in China. This accusation extends beyond the world of watches into other high fashion items like Italian leather goods. Since the threshold for the Swiss Made label is fairly low, there is lots of wiggle room for manufacturers. It's a whole big thing. It's also quite the rabbit hole. The controversy makes this the perfect time to take a look at a basic watch that is definitely made overseas: the Timex Easy Reader.

Most Timex watches are made in their Cebu manufacturing facility in the Philippines. According to Timex, 80% of their watches are manufactured, assembled, or shipped from the Cebu plant. It's a vertically-integrated factory that can make just about every aspect of a watch. You can see a video of this factory here on the Ablogtowatch youtube channel.

Timex Easy Readers have long been derided as grandpa watches or for people with bad eyesight. They are a great watch for Father's Day. But, over the years, the colors and straps have quietly been evolving. Frankly, this is a pretty good looking watch. The watch has a 38mm case which is on trend for a move towards slightly smaller cases. According to Timex, the 20mm strap fits wrists up to 8-inches in circumference. This is timekeeping without pretension or artifice.

The Easy Reader is also a watch that sells for a very reasonable price. As of this writing (June 2025), you can get it on Amazon for 10% off. Check the Easy Reader out here on Amazon!

TGIF: The Timex Harborside 43mm Might Be Your Safe Harbor

The market goes up and down and crashes with every threat of tariffs. You worry about retirement. You find out that bitcoin isn't gold. You want an emergency fund. You need an emergency fund. The chaos is bewildering. Sometimes it's all a bit too much. In the midst of it all that grail watch from Rolex seems to move further and further away. If you were rich and awash in cash, it might be time to scoop one up used and help someone out who is subject to a margin call.  Most of us, we just sigh and keep on grinding. But, I have an antidote for watch lust in these troubled times. Check out the Timex Harborside 43mm diver-style watch. It looks like something out of a dream. It looks like something out of all of our watch dreams.

Timex Harborside Quartz Diver-style Watch

The Timex Harborside diver-style watch is a great desk diver. It sports 100 meters of water resistance so you can go swimming, snorkeling, or dancing in the rain. The bezel certainly looks like a familiar bezel, but it's stationary. It's the kind of watch that could satisfy a Rolex itch for quite some time. It's also made in the Philippines rather than China. Sometimes that can make a 125% difference. You can check this great Timex out here on Amazon. Buy it. Wear it. You can save up for that Rollie (and build up an emergency fund at the same time). In a year or two or four, you'll have that Rolex money. You may also appreciate the Timex that helped you save a ton of money in troubled times.

Watch Wearing Wednesday: Timex Mod 44 Men's Quartz Watch

I couldn't resist grabbing the Timex Mod 44 that I gushed about in my earlier Sharp Watch Shout Out and it's proving to be everything I had hoped. It has a big 44mm diameter case, a very readable dial, and a genuine leather band that's long enough to be comfortable.

Timex Mod 44 Men's Quartz Watch

So far, I'm thrilled with this Timex watch. Here is a photo of the Mod 44 when I wore it on a nice spring day. It's exciting with a sub-$50 watch works out so well. It looks like this watch is still offered by a couple of sellers through Amazon here.

Sharp Watch Shoutout: The Timex Mod 44 44mm Leather Strap Watch

If you are looking for an unusual watch with an interesting look, check out the Timex Mod 44 44mm Leather Strap Watch. It has a retro-futuristic looking case with a gold tone that looks like bronze. It also has numerals at 12, 6, and 9 that look like something from the 70s. It quite simply looks like a watch out of a science fiction movie. A watch this interesting simply doesn't come along at under $50 very often.  That's why this Timex earns a Sharp Watch Shoutout.

Timex Mod 44 Leather Strap Watch (Amazon photo)

The Timex Mod 44 also has an interesting TX logo design on the crown. It's just one of many ways that the watch captures the eye.

Timex Mod 44 Profile and Leather Strap

If you're interested in this Timex Mod 44 watch with a gold tone, check it out here on Amazon. In the ephemeral world of fashion watches, this sharp-looking watch might end up as a rare gem. If you'd like to see a similar watch with a multifunction dial in black, check out this Timex Mod 44.

Sharp Watch Shout Out: Timex Men's Standard 41mm Chronograph

When you're in job search mode, every cool watch you ever wanted to buy is on sale and, temporarily, off limits.  In that regard, Timex is on a roll!  When I was researching retro watches, I must have triggered something in the Amazon algorithm and it revealed this gem of a watch:

Timex Men's Standard 41mm Chronograph

I suspect this watch is doing "vintage" better than any actual vintage watch. I like the way that the dial has a faded blue color and the dial has a rather flat white color for the subdials and tachymeter track.  The fancy crown further suggests a glorious past. The strap also complements the watch color scheme and looks like it would be easy to replace sometime down the road. This watch definitely deserves a sharp watch shout out!

TGIF: A Thrift Store Timex Watch Find Forgone

A few weeks ago, my wife and I were "thrifting" at a Thrift Store in a nearby town and I came across an old Timex digital watch.  It had a gold toned case and expansion band.  It resembled an iconic digital watch of the late 80s and early 90s.

Timex Men's 34mm Digital Watch (Model T78677)

I had the store clerk fetch the old watch from the glass case and took a quick look at it.  The battery was quite dead and, while the watch looked like it was in good shape, the band showed a bit of wear.  It was only $9.  But, when I saw that replacing the battery would involve unscrewing and keeping track of some teeny-tiny Philips head screws, I decided to pass.  I'm not big on digital watches anyway.  I've had a few that would audibly chime no matter what you did to stop it.  Besides, the watch was still available and selling on Amazon.   It is listed as Timex Men's Classic Digital 34mm Watch.

According to one amusing review on Amazon, this watch has been offered for over 30 years and changing the battery can be a chore.

It's worth noting, that Timex has recently released several new watches under the T80 label.  These retro watches look like an interesting watch choice that combine modern technology with faithful retro styling.

Timex T80 Digital Watch

While these digital watches might not be everyone's favorite watch, they are a faithful nod to the digital watches from the beginning years of the digital watch era.

Wristwatch Review: Timex Expedition Gallatin Watch

The watch for today's review is a simple classic:  the Timex Expedition Gallatin Watch.  It's a nice comfortable watch for everyday wear.  As always, Timex provides an excellent watch value for your money.

The Timex Expedition Gallatin

WATCH DIMENSIONS

It features a 22mm wide silicone strap and a lightweight 44mm diameter resin case that is 11.5mm thick.

WATCH FEATURES

While it has the style of a dive watch, it's only rated for 50 meters of water resistance and the bezel doesn't rotate. Of course, this is a watch you wear for comfort and style. It does have indiglo lighting when you push the crown and it has a little bit of lume on the hour markers and hands. The crystal is acrylic. It's not really a tactical watch, but it looks great (below) on the dieselpunk boardgame battlefield of Scythe from Stonemaier Games.

The Timex Gallatin looks gallant on a boardgame battlefield.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

As an inexpensive watch without a lot of metal, it's also a great watch for travel. If you lose it or damage it, you won't cry for long.  For a fairly low price, you get a great looking watch that is readable, functional, and reliable. I like it. This is a Timex watch I often choose for my everyday expeditions.

Wristwatch Review: Timex Men's Ironman Triathlon 30-Lap Oversize Digital Watch (T5K4139J)

A Great Timex Watch - but Doesn't Convey Superpowers!

[This watch review was originally published on Yahoo Voices back about a decade ago.  But, the watch is still available for a great price on Amazon.]

Ironman. The name evokes images of powerful athletes, superheroes, and an awesome Black Sabbath song. Over the years, Timex Ironman watches have gained a reputation for being tough watches that amateur athletes can depend on. So, when you strap on the Timex Ironman Triathlon 30-Lap Oversize Digital Watch, you certainly feel ready for action.

Timex Iron Man Triathlon 30-Lap Oversized Digital Watch

While you don't gain the ability to fire disruptor rays from your palms, this Ironman watch will allow you to time things, countdown, remember lap times, and remember up to 15 dates.

The plastic watch case of this Ironman watch looks rugged and adventure ready. The bezel is deep blue on black. Yellow is used for the Timex Name and Ironman icon. The function button labels are white in a large, readable, no-nonsense font. The case is well-integrated into the band and extends around your wrist gauntlet style. I think the shape and taper of the case into the band subtly evokes the shape of the comic Ironman's suit or well-defined six-pack abs. But, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. The band itself is blue canvas with black velcro extending along its entire length. The case measures about 1 3/4 inches across and is about 9/16-inches thick. The watch fits my 8 1/2-inch wrists with room to spare. The band measures 15/16-inches wide.

According to Timex.com, this Timex Ironman has an INDIGLO Night-Light with Night-Mode, a 100-Hour Chronograph with Lap and Split Times, a 30-lap memory recall, a 99-lap counter, a 24-hour countdown timer with stop and repeat, and fifteen date reminders. The watch also appears to have up to three alarms. In truth, as a bit of an analog guy, I find all of that just a little difficult to set up. Fortunately, the small print instructions found in the watch box can be difficult to read. Adobe acrobat versions of the manual are available at Timex.com. I was easily able to set reminders in the watch for birthdays, my anniversary, and holidays. That function alone may save many iron men. While there is an initial learning curve, it's nice to have a watch that offers a wide array of alarms and reminders. The stopwatch itself is actually very easy to start, stop, and reset.

This Timex Ironman watch looks great, fits great, and offers a lot of features. But, it doesn't offer any superpowers.

Setting all the Ironman functions aside, I like this watch because it goes with my blue shirts. I also like the streamlined styling of the Timex Ironman a lot more than the clunky looks offered by its Casio-competitor the G Shock. While this watch won't provide any superpowers, it will support a lot of athletic activities and provide lots of useful reminders, alarms, and stopwatch functions.

Overall, I like the Timex Ironman Tradition 30-Lap Oversize watch. At Walmart, this watch sold for considerably less than the Timex suggested retail price of $50.

[You can still find this Timex timepiece on Amazon for a similarly great price.]

Wristwatches of the Apocalypse: Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Field Watch

As the COVID crisis goes on and on, I'm not going out as much and I'm not going to the office at all.  Days go by without wearing a watch.  But, a few days ago, I opened my watch drawer and my Timex Expedition is still ticking.  It's ready to go somewhere.  Anywhere.

Timex Expedition Vintage Metal Watch

I think I'll wear it this evening.  We need to get out of the apartment.  It's time for an expedition of some kind.

[Update 1/7/2024:  Thank God, it seems like the worst of COVID is well behind us.  Now the question is what kind of watch to wear and where to wear it!]

Men's Watches for Everyday Wear

Today, I am wearing one of my favorite everyday watches--a Timex Expedition.  It has an indigo backlighting system and a dial that is easy to read.   It has a sturdy two tone resin case and band. Even if I'm not going on an actual expedition, this Timex provides me with a sense of adventure and capability.

A Quick Guide to Preppy Watches

You'd think after 30 days of daily blog posts, I'd rest.  But, there is still Christmas shopping to be done and people still need gift ideas.  So, I'm going to revisit some of the guides that I've done.  These articles provide ideas if you want to buy a watch for an aviation buff, a preppy, or a watch collector.  Today, we'll start out with the preppy!

If you have a preppy on your list, there are all kinds of preppy watches in the market.  Brands like Timex and LaCoste have them covered.

LaCoste Watches wait for your preppy at Macy's
My personal favorite for preppy watches is the Timex Weekender series.  Unfortunately, the straps on the canvas strap versions are just a tad short for my wrists.  Instead, I got the leather strap version with tachymeter markings.  It's a great watch and it's very readable.  You can read a review here:

The Timex Weekenders are stylish, no-nonsense, watches that look great and are generally affordable.

Timex Watches for Christmas!

In my collection, T stands proudly for Timex!  I love my Timex watches.  They are affordable and they look good.  The Timex watches at my local Walmart have never looked better.

Timex is all over the trend towards military style watches.  They have several military watches that simply look great.  My favorite is this "Vintage Metal" Timex.  It looks like something right out of World War II.  Of course, if we would have had Indiglo technology in the 40s fascism would have been defeated far sooner.
Timex Expedition - Military Style
If you have a fitness fanatic on your gift list this year, the Timex Ironman line of watches might make the perfect gift.  They look good and have all the stopwatch timer functions that you could ever want.

Timex makes watches that simply work.  They are readable, practical, and well designed.

Just Get Him a Timex Already!

Stop agonizing!  You can just get him a Timex.  They make plenty of perfectly respectable watches and they don't break the budget!  I love my Weekender!  It's easy to read.  It has the date.  It lights up at night with a simple press of the crown.  It's only about $35 or so.  It makes a great stocking stuffer watch.

The Expendible Timex Expedition

Check Out the Timex Expedition Camper

If it takes a licking, just get another one. . .

Every once in a while, a dude has to go on an adventure. It means stepping away from the keyboard, putting down the game controller, and actually going outside into the elements. Out there, you're going to need an adventurous watch. There are two schools of thinking about adventurous watches. Some people want an expensive multi-function watch that can do everything. Others might want a cheap almost disposable watch that can easily be replaced.

One such cheap adventurer's watch might be the basic analog Timex Expedition Camper watch. It looks tactical, but it's got a black fabric band and a plastic case in its least expensive version. With a 38mm diameter dial and a case that is only 8mm thick, it's a lightweight bang around watch that you'll barely notice that you're wearing.  It keeps time well though and can be had for just over $20 ($40 on sale in 2025). It has macho looks, 100-meter water resistance, and the Timex indiglo backlighting system, but it remains  a dirt cheap field watch in its most basic form.
Timex Expedition Camper

[As of August 2025, this Timex is still available on Amazon.com and is regularly available at sale prices. If you need a bang around field watch, you can find the Timex Camper here on Amazon.]

Timex Weekender at Night

What does Indiglo Lighting Look Like At Night

If you are on a budget, you don't need tritium, you need indiglo.  Here's what the Timex Weekender looks like when you press the crown in and activate the Indiglo backlighting at night.

Very cool.  Very easy to read!

A Casual Weekend Watch with Class from Timex

Looking at a Timex Weekender with Tachymeter Markings

You've seen my newest old Timex; now check out my newest new Timex.  Timex has recently introduced it's Weekender series of men's analog watches.  They have a touch of preppy sophistication that would look right at home in the Hamptons, Cape Cod, Rehobeth, Nags Head, or Destin.  Since Target had them at an attractive price, I couldn't resist.  However, I upped the ante from the canvas straps of most Weekender watches and chose the Timex Weekender Tachymeter watch with a leather band.  I think you'll agree that it is a beautiful watch.

[As of 2025, I still wear this watch. It has provided great value and looks good. To peruse current Timex Weekender offerings, look know further than this affiliate link to Amazon.]
