Watch Wearing Wednesday: Tommy Hilfiger Men's Casual Sports Watch

One of the watches I enjoy wearing most in casual situations is my Tommy Hilfiger "Field" watch.  This one isn't really a field watch, but it looks like one to me.  It has all the right field watch properties with a large readable numbers and hashes and broad white hour and minute hands for great readability.

Are Tommy Hilfiger Watches Any Good?

Hilfiger watches are designed, manufactured, and sold under license by Movado Group. To me, this is an indicator that the company bringing this watch to the marketplace knows a little something about the watch business.  The watch does show a nice finish and great design consistency with other Hilfiger watches, accessories, and clothing products. I find Hilfiger watches to be the perfect choice for business casual environments.

Where Can I Buy Hilfiger Watches?

Like many of my Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, and Perry Ellis watches, I found this one at a closeout store like Ross or Marshall's for around $50. Hilfiger watches also hit a middle class sweet spot on pricing with a combination of prices between $65 and $155 on Amazon and many watches in the affordable $80 price range. TGIF: "Go To" Weekender Watches

TGIF! Now that the workweek is done, what's your favorite watch for banging around on the weekend?  Do you need something rugged or something casual?  Hard rock or yacht rock? Do you favor casual "weekender" watches from brands like Timex or Citizen?  So many questions.  Don't get stressed.  It's Friday.

Timex Weekender with Tachymeter Markings

This Timex Weekender has been one of my favorites for a long time.  Most Timex Weekenders have plain bezels, but not this one.  It has tachymeter functions.  I found this one at Walmart and, within a few months, the brand must have unified their Weekender standards and all the Timex Weekenders had plain metal bezels.  Sometimes watch models don't last for long.  They get supplanted by new models all the time for unknown reasons.  Sometimes you just have to get when the getting is good.

Wristwatch Review: Timex Expedition Gallatin Watch

The watch for today's review is a simple classic:  the Timex Expedition Gallatin Watch.  It's a nice comfortable watch for everyday wear.  As always, Timex provides an excellent watch value for your money.

WATCH DIMENSIONS

It features a 22mm wide silicone strap and a lightweight 44mm diameter resin case that is 11.5mm thick.

WATCH FEATURES

While it has the style of a dive watch, it's only rated for 50 meters of water resistance and the bezel doesn't rotate. Of course, this is a watch you wear for comfort and style. It does have indiglo lighting when you push the crown and it has a little bit of lume on the hour markers and hands. The crystal is acrylic. It's not really a tactical watch, but it looks great (below) on the dieselpunk boardgame battlefield of Scythe from Stonemaier Games.

OVERALL IMPRESSION

As an inexpensive watch without a lot of metal, it's also a great watch for travel. If you lose it or damage it, you won't cry for long.  For a fairly low price, you get a great looking watch that is readable, functional, and reliable. I like it. This is a Timex watch I often choose for my everyday expeditions.

Watch Review: Diesel Fastback Men's Watch

What would you do if a watch company offered an understated timepiece that was affordable, readable, perfectly proportioned, and tasteful.  In the case of Diesel watches, you might take their temperature and ask them if they felt okay.  Diesel watches are known for bold, over-the-top, designs that often combine huge watch cases, multi-layered dials, interesting subdials, and lots of interesting textures and materials under the crystal.  They make watches that tend to catch the eye and hold your attention.  However, they have also made a watch that is quite simply perfect for everyday wear, the Diesel Fastback (Model DZ1838).

Diesel Watch Design

The Diesel Fastback emphasized readability above everything else.  It has large hour and minute hands that are bright, white, and readable.  If you just take the quickest of glances at this watch, you know what time it is.  In a world full of watches with subdials that make you squint, the Fastback Diesel does what it is supposed to do.  There isn't even a date window.  The second hand is in a bright yellow that is also easy to read.

When you flip the watch over, you 'll find an etched caseback featuring a man with a Mohawk and the Diesel motto "Only the Brave."

Diesel Watch Construction

The Diesel Fastback offers an all stainless steel case, a mineral crystal, and a genuine leather strap.  The case is 45mm in diameter and 10mm thick.  The leather strap is 22mm wide and comes in a deep shade of blue.    It's an attractive dark color that goes well with blue jean denim.  The strap is 9.5 inches long.  The package is tight enough to provide 5 BAR (or 167 feet) of water resistance.

After a few months of wear and some light dish washing duty with this watch, I'm finding that it is one of the most comfortable watches in my collection.  The leather has been fading comfortably around the edges a bit, but the watch remains a solid performer.

Overall Review of the Diesel Fastback Watch

I really like the Diesel Fastback Watch.  While it may be out of character for a brand built on exuberant styling, this watch is excellent for every day wear.  It's a purposeful and attractive timepiece that makes a great addition to any watch box.
