Watch Wearing Wednesday: Grenen by Skagen Stainless Steel Mesh Watch

It's that hippity-hop Easter time of year and just last month I caught this candid shot of the Easter Bunny in action. I was able to document the time thanks to my old Grenen watch. It wasn't easy to sneak up on him, but he may have been captivated by the minimalist Scandinavian inspired design.

Titanium Tuesday: Skagen Sundby Titanium Watch with Stainless Steel Mesh Band

If you are looking for a sleek modern watch that's just a little different than the mainstream, you really can't go wrong with Fossil's Skagen brand.  They have an interesting looking watch that combines Danish minimalism with a titanium case for a winning combination.  On this watch, I like the look of the urgent orange minute track inboard of the hour markings.  It really stands out against the charcoal gray of the dial, bracelet, and the titanium case.  To me, the overall look seems a little more muscular than the typical Skagen watch.

This quartz watch has a 40mm diameter case and 50 meters of water resistance.  Overall, it has a 4.2 rating on Amazon with over 5,400 ratings.  If you want to say, "Ja!" to this cool looking Skagen watch, you can get it right here on Amazon.

As of this November 25, 2024 post, there is a Black Friday Deal on this Skagen watch that marks it down 59% to a comfortable sub-$100 price point.  You never know how long Amazon Deals will run so I'd jump on it--again right here on Amazon!

Watch Deal Alert: Skagen Men's Signatur Minimalist Watch on Amazon

[Post updated with latest deal April 17, 2026] With all the talk around minimalist watches, you might want to check out this deal on Amazon for 34% off of a Skagen Signatur watch.  There are many styles but the Amazon 34% off deal applies to this blue one with a leather strap.

Skagen Signatur Minimalist Watch (Amazon Photo)

An American brand founded by a Danish business couple, Skagen is named after the northernmost town in Denmark. Skagen has been creating and selling watches with a strong Danish minimalist design ethos since 1992.  In 2012, it was bought by Fossil watches, but the designs remain to true to their Scandinavian roots.

With a Skagen watch, you'll get a good quality brand, a leader in minimalist watches, and a very reasonable price point. This watch comes in under $100.  They are definitely worth a look.

Watch Wearing Wednesday: Grenen Men's Black Stainless Steel Watch

Revived with a new battery, I've been wearing my Grenen stainless steel watch again. It's a great modern design with a thin sleek case and a stainless steel mesh band.

While Grenen watches have faded from the scene, it's parent brand Skagen still makes similar watches.  Many people are getting into minimalism and minimalist watches today, but Skagen has been into simple designs for a long time.

I first reviewed this watch here back in 2016.  The watch continues to be a great alternative to big clunky watches and brings a cool form and great functionality to your wrist.  It's definitely a watch you can wear all day.

Watch Wearing Wednesday: Men's Grenen Sports Watch with Analog Calendar Features

When you were a kid, did your grandfather ever give you a wooden token or small coin that was marked as a "Round Tuit?" If you got a "Round Tuit," it was supposed to empower you to go out and do all the things that you were going to do if you ever got around to it.  It was kind of dumb, pre-baby boomer, humor that usually elicited a combination of a suppressed sigh, groan, rolling of the eyes, and a strong attempt to pay attention and give respect to the World War 2 and Great Depression generation.  In our hobby, getting around to changing the batteries on quartz watches can be put off for a long time.  But, when you do change those batteries, it's like Christmas.  The gift is all kinds of watches that you haven't worn for awhile.  This watch (below) is from Skagen and was sold through it's Grenen brand at stores like Kohl's.

I wore this watch a lot for the first couple of years of ownership and then it got packed away for about a decade when the battery died.  Now, it's back and it looks great.  It's like a vintage sports car now.

Did the Grinch Steal Grenen?

This Grinch is grinning?  It makes me wonder if he stole all the Grenen watches.  Hmmm...  I haven't seen any on Amazon and I haven't seen any in Kohl's!

I haven't seen any "Grenen by Skagen" watches at all this holiday season.  They've been gone for nearly a year.  Designed by Skagen and sold for a slightly lower cost than the name brand, they were available at Kohl's for the past couple of years.  Fortunately, you can still get a Skagen  if you want a slim, streamlined watch with a Scandinavian design.

Skagen Watches for Christmas

One of the guys on mywristwatch.net suggested another great watch brand for Christmas shoppers to check out:  Skagen!  Skagen watches are designed in Denmark and reflect Scandinavian minimalist design philosophies.

While some brands have thick cases, Skagen watches have thin cases that always fit under a shirt sleeve.  They are powered by reliable Japanese quartz movements.  Skagens are smooth!

Usually, I don't see Skagen watches for less than $100.  However, I found plenty of nice examples on Amazon priced very reasonably.  Just as you can recognize a great song by Van Halen, ZZ Top, or Aerosmith on the radio in the first few bars, you can instantly recognize a Skagen watch by it's streamlined, modern, minimalist look.  If you are shopping for a holiday gift this season, it's a brand that belongs on your list.

A Very Cool Grenen Watch from Denmark

I really like Skagen's Grenen brand of watches.  They look great and they are very affordable at Kohl's.  I recently bought one at over 60% off and I love it.  When other watches are thick and bulky, Grenen offers a thin and light alternative.

As of 2024, you can still find Skagen and Grenen watches on Amazon.  Here's a review that I published about another Grenen watch.
