Relic Sawyer - Perfect for Victory at Sea

My Relic Sawyer Wristwatch looks like something issued by the Navy.  It's sleek, grey, and purposeful -- like a battleship.  The numerals on the bezel are darkened and the face is grey with white baton markers at hourly intervals.  They seem purposeful and warlike.  Even the sub-dials look like nautical instruments.  This Relic watch looks so much like something off of a battleship that I recently took it to a battleship.  I stopped by the U.S.S. North Carolina in Wilmington, North Carolina, over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The U.S.S. North Carolina in Wilmington, N.C.

The Battleship itself is moored just across the Cape Fear River from Wilmington, North Carolina.  It's a lot of fun to find and view on google maps.

The Battleship and Watch Both Look Sleek

While the Relic Sawyer isn't any kind of official Navy watch, it sure looks like it could be.  However, it's far more affordable than any kind of mil-spec hardware that's designed for extreme conditions.

Ready for Adventure!

Of course, when you strap on this watch, you can't listen to some namby-pamby, snooty public radio, symphony.  You have to listen to something truly awesome.  I recommend the Victory at Sea Soundtrack.

Plus, if you are going to wear a watch that looks like it belongs on a battleship, you should learn something about battleships and there is no better starting point than the best documentary series ever made:

All the Angles of the Relic Jake Sport Watch Photos

Watches don't have to be expensive in order to have innovative designs.  For example, the Relic "Jake" men's analog watch with black rubber strap sounds pretty utilitarian by description.  But, it has one of the coolest watch crystal designs ever.  The crystal is blue and is cut to have angled facets.  The pictures speak for themselves:

[Update:  Amazingly, as of 1/6/2024, the Relic Jake sport watch is still available on Amazon at a very attractive price.  If you'd like to check one out, check this link to Relic Jake on Amazon.]

My Moon Phase Watch from Relic

While my tough-looking Relic "Detroit" watch is cool, sometimes you have to set a slightly different tone for the office, job interviews, and other sophisticated functions. For those occasions, I break out what may be my most luxurious Relic watch. My Silver Stainless Steel Multifunction Watch is a moon phase watch. On one of the subdials the sun shows during the day and the moon shows at night.

It's a great watch with all the sophistication of a fine European timepiece at a very affordable $50 to $70 price.

Men's Relic Detroit Watch

Need a tough looking watch?  Check out the Relic Detroit (ZR11924).  The lighting brightens it considerably in this photo, but it's a dark, brooding, tough looking timepiece.  I like how it evokes classic diver-style and military-style watches.  This watch is perfectly appropriate for the office.

The rugged looks of this watch are great after hours. Below, the Relic Detroit goes well with my leather jacket.

The Multifunction version of the Relic Detroit looks great as well.  As of 2024, Relic watches can still be found here on Amazon.

A New Relic Watch

If you are looking for nice quartz watches that are good values for the price, check out Fossil's Relic brand watches.  They sell at department stores like JC Penney and Kohls. I like this Relic brand watch because it has a simple and readable face and the flat stainless steel finish.  This model is called the Relic Detroit.

A Relic Detroit Watch

Overall, Relic offers a very good value for the money.  There are a wide variety of Relic-brand watches available here on Amazon.
