How to Buy A Lorus Watch in the United States

Lorus is a Seiko brand that was launched in 1982 to bring reliable, affordable, timepieces to younger markets. At the time, Lorus supplemented the Pulsar and Seiko line-ups and was launched internationally. I've owned a few Lorus watches over the years that I bought in the 1990s in various American department stores.

However, the brand is not officially sold in the United States. Apparently, the official markets for Lorus watches are Europe, Canada, South Africa, Fiji, and Oceania (including Australia and New Zealand. It's a shame that the brand isn't more widespread in the United States since the timepieces generally offer great value.

What if you want to buy a Lorus watch in the United States?

Lorus watches are available in the United States from a variety of gray market sources including foreign watch shops online. In a quick search, two Dutch watch companies (links provided), Masters In Time and Mightywatches, both offer Lorus watches.

Lorus watches can be conveniently ordered online from dealers on Amazon.com and Walmart.com. The Amazon.com offering seem to have a wide variety, but cost more to ship. Walmart has just a couple of Lorus watches, but shipping is free. The Lorus Model RG245XX9 (shown above) is offered on Amazon here at my affiliate link. As a gray market watch, shipping is $24.99 and may take a month or so.

The Lorus brand offers good value and, for American collectors, the opportunity for an unusual watch choice. For example, this Lorus sports model looks pretty solid.  You can check it out easily via my affiliate link on Amazon. Ultimately, there are most likely equally solid choices for similar watches from other Seiko brands like Citizen or Orient. Still, it is fun to live in a world full of watch choices.

In my collection, L is for Lorus.  If you are looking for something a little different, you might try a Lorus watch.  Lorus is a Seiko brand that it marketed in Canada, Europe, and the Pacific.  You can expect Seiko quality movements in a wide variety of designs.  Lorus watches are also available at reasonable price points.

My Long Lost Lorus Watch: Vintage or Old?

When you have as many watches as I do, you have to rotate your collection around so that you have new things to wear.  I recently turned up this really cool old Lorus Sports watch that is great for banging around on the weekends.  I've probably had this Lorus watch for twenty years.  I'm not sure if it's vintage or old.  I'm not even sure if I'm vintage or old.  But, it is a cool casual watch.

This watch uses luminous materials nicely to make it easy to tell time at night.  It also has a small case size by today's standards.  After approximately twenty years of ownership, my Lorus runs strong.  I just have to replace a battery every couple of year.

Of course, that reliability is no surprise.  Lorus is a Seiko watch brand sold by their dealer networks in Europe, Canada, South Africa, Fiji, and Oceania.  So, if you are American, you aren't likely to see many Lorus watches.

I knew this watch.  I put a new strap on it and, now, I'm wearing it again.  It's a little retro and a lot of no nonsense in a watch.  Plus, it's a Seiko brand.

Lorus Watches: A Seiko by another name?

If you are looking for a nice, low cost, wristwatch, you might try Lorus.  Lorus is a Seiko brand that makes cool watches and sells them at affordable prices.  Here's a picture:

This watch is attractively styled and an excellent value!  However, I don't see many retailers in the U.S. carrying Lorus watches lately.  According to the Lorus website, they are sold in Canada, Europe, and other non-U.S. markets.

Seiko established the Lorus brand in 1982 so that they could offer a complementary product line to accompany Seiko on Europe. Lorus provided more affordable price points than Seiko. The relationship between Seiko and Lorus might be akin to the relatonship between Bulova and Caravelle.
