Gruen Watches for Christmas

In my collection, G is often for Gruen II.  Gruen was another fine name in American watches.  They manufactured watches from the 1890s through the 1950s.  Ebay has lots of vintage Gruen watches at a variety of price points.  These vintage watches could make memorable and meaningful gifts.

Like the Elgin name, the Gruen name has been revived by MZ Berger.  While these new Gruen's are certainly less desirable from a collector's perspective.  You could still find some nice contemporary watches from these new Gruen collections. But don't be fooled into thinking that new Gruen watches are valuable because of the Gruen name.  At Kohl's I purchased a "Precision by Gruen Watch" for about $23.  It came with a really cheap nylon band, but looks very nice with this replacement bracelet.

I have also bought a Gruen II watch at Sears.  It's an attractive looking quartz watch for about $35.  It was a little too large for me, but I was easily able to resize it using the Android watch repair kit that I won from a contest on one of my favorite watch forums.

These new Gruen watches would be perfectly reasonable gifts if you are shopping in the under $50 price range.  They'd be great stocking stuffers.  My Gruen II watch also came in an attractive box.  That's always a nice plus for Christmas shoppers.

Gametime Watches for Christmas

If you have a sports fan on your shopping list, G might stand for Gametime.  I enjoy my Gametime Team Watch every year for college football season.

Fossil Watches for Christmas

F is for Fossil in my collection.  If you want to see a lot of great watches in one place, find out if there is a Fossil Outlet at your nearest outlet mall.  You'll find lots of great watches at reasonable prices.  Fossil watches make great Christmas gifts.  I have two really cool Fossil watches in my collection.  The first is a classic retro design call the Fossil Ansel.  It looks like a watch from 70s with more contemporary dimensions.

My second Fossil watch is the Fossil Decker.  It looks like a vintage bronze watch that is fit for a sea captain.  It's a classic look.  It makes a great gift because it has a rich character.

Elgin Watches for Christmas

Elgin was once one of the finest American watch companies.   For over 100 years, Elgin made pocket watches and later wristwatches.   If you are seeking a special gift for someone that will appreciate a fine antique, a genuine Elgin watch would make a rare and special gift.  You can always find plenty of Elgin watches on ebay in various conditions.  Of course, buying an antique watch can be a perilous endeavor.

The Elgin name has been revived by MZ Berger.  However, modern Elgin watches have no relation to the original company.  But, MZ Berger does make stylish, affordable, watches that can make appealing gifts.  I bought this modern day Elgin at Sears and it is one of the most attractive and unusual watches in my collection.

[As of 2024, modern Elgin watches are available here on Amazon.  Some are marketed purely under the Elgin label and others under the Elgin by Accutime.  As far as the internet knows, MZ Berger still owns the Elgin brand. While some of the watches are a little "blingy," some are quite attractive. In an era where many dead Swiss brands are being revived, it's kind of cool that an American name in watches  continues on.

Diesel Watches for Christmas

When it comes to Christmas gifts, nothing quite has the power of a big Diesel watch!  They make a bold statement with innovative styling for a sharp urban look.  A Diesel watch is the kind of watch that should really come with its own theme music.

You can find watches with similar styles at Target, but they are pale imitations of real Diesel watches.  These Diesels are big and bold and not as expensive as you might think.

You can roam your local shopping mall for a Diesel watch.  But, I have an alternative.

The Best of Diesel Watches on Amazon

I've put together a page with some of best Diesel watches that I've found on Amazon.  It has the models that everyone wants. You can find my Best Diesel Watches on Amazon page here!

Citizen Watches for Christmas

C has a new meaning in my watch collection.  I recently received my first Citizen watch as an anniversary present.  This Citizen Eco-Drive watch is a great looking timepiece with high tech wizardly within the case.  But, it's even nicer as a gift from my wife to commemorate our 15th wedding anniversary.  This watch is also called "Drive by Citizen."

Here is a picture of my new Citizen Eco Drive watch that I took way down yonder on the Chattahoochie river.

The watch is solar powered and never needs batteries.  It also has a black ion plated case, a comfortable leather band, a date window, and a high degree of water resistance (100 meters).

The dial is black and silver.  It's interesting because at some angles it will appear black and at others it can appear silver.  I like this watch because it uses various shades of black to create a very masculine design that is not necessarily military.  The watch is also understated and refined enough for office wear.  It has a sensible 44 millimeter diameter case and it doesn't exude an attitude of excess and bling.  Instead, the design of this watch sends a message of strength and no nonsense technical competence.  I like it a lot. You can read my complete review here -

If you'd like one just like it, they are available on Amazon.com at pretty good prices.

Casio Watches for Christmas

C is the next stop on my Christmas watches A through Z tour.  It can be hard to imagine buying someone a Casio watch for Christmas.  The company was built on cheap little digital watches.  But, today, Casio is a watch world powerhouse with premium watches for everyone.  The big choice for today's Casio buyer is between analog, digital, or ana-digital watches.  The company is known for it's G-Shock series of ruggedized digital watches.  Now, Casio is also known for advanced analog watches marketed under their Edifice model line.

The Big Casio Watch Choices:

Casio also has many watches that can take the wearer off the beaten path. I like CASIO Men's Forester Sport Watch as an inexpensive bang-around watch.

The Casio Forester is Perfect for Fall Foliage

But, the Casio Men's PAS410B-5V Pathfinder Moon Phase Hunting Timer Watch is a great digital watch choice for fishermen and hunters.

Casio Pathfinder Moon Phase Hunting Timer & Mothra!

I think the Forester would be a great choice for an active kid who likes the outdoors.  The more sophisticated Casio Pathfinder might be a great choice for an adult.  Both watches are less than $30.

Finally, don't forget the Casio Edifice!  It has three subdials and a great stainless steel look!
