Watch Deal Alert: Citizen Men's Eco Drive Weekender Sports Watch (AW1710-041)

I recently saw this cool Citizen's Men Eco Drive Weekender Sports Watch as a Black Friday Special on Amazon.  It's Model AW1710-041 and there was just something about the fonts on the dial and the sleek black bezel that caught my eye.  It reminded me of the Undone Basecamp Classic that we covered as a sharp watch shoutout here in mid-October.  While the bezel isn't shiny, the simplicity of form and function are very much present.  It evokes the simple classic watches that have made their way into our collective memories over the years. Best of all, this Citizen Weekender is a very nice Amazon Black Friday Deal at 36% off!

A Citizen Eco Drive Watch with Dive-style markings

The case is 44mm in diameter and the bezel is non-rotating. It's always a shame to see the function of a beautiful form undermined by a non-rotating bezel. But, the incredible price, the awesome look, and the no fuss / no muss nature of the eco drive system makes me a big fan of this watch.  If you are positioned to snatch it up, the black friday Amazon deal is here. It would be the perfect holiday gift for someone on your list.

Holiday Gift Ideas: Citizen Eco-Drive Watches

When you give a watch as a gift, you like for it to have some special characteristics that make it unique.  But, when you can't fly to some exclusive watch maker in Geneva for a timepiece, you can find yourself in a pickle.  On our more affordable middle class plane of existence, many people turn to respected watchmakers like Citizen.  The Citizen Eco-Drive watch is a special watch.  It's a watch that can liberate its wearer from the tedious chore of changing batteries.  The Citizen Eco-Drive line of watches has one of the most sophisticated solar power plants in the world of horology.  Once charged, a Citizen Eco-Drive watch can run for six months in the dark.

My first Citizen Eco-Drive was called "Drive by Citizen" or some such marketing thing.  I'm wearing it as I type.  I've had it for just over a year now and it is still going strong.  The leather band remains soft and supple and the styling is masculine and appropriate for any situation.  You can read my full review of the Drive by Citizen watch here.

My second Citizen Eco-Drive watch is this classic design that obviously draws inspiration from the vintage Citizen watches of the past.  It's a great watch to wear to the office and looks great with khakis.  There is nothing to indicate that this is a solar watch, but it can run for six months in a dark sock drawer.  You can read my complete review of this stainless steel Citizen Eco-Drive watch here.

Citizen Watches for Christmas

C has a new meaning in my watch collection.  I recently received my first Citizen watch as an anniversary present.  This Citizen Eco-Drive watch is a great looking timepiece with high tech wizardly within the case.  But, it's even nicer as a gift from my wife to commemorate our 15th wedding anniversary.  This watch is also called "Drive by Citizen."

Here is a picture of my new Citizen Eco Drive watch that I took way down yonder on the Chattahoochie river.

The watch is solar powered and never needs batteries.  It also has a black ion plated case, a comfortable leather band, a date window, and a high degree of water resistance (100 meters).

The dial is black and silver.  It's interesting because at some angles it will appear black and at others it can appear silver.  I like this watch because it uses various shades of black to create a very masculine design that is not necessarily military.  The watch is also understated and refined enough for office wear.  It has a sensible 44 millimeter diameter case and it doesn't exude an attitude of excess and bling.  Instead, the design of this watch sends a message of strength and no nonsense technical competence.  I like it a lot. You can read my complete review here -
