Watch Review: Citizen Men's Quartz Stainless Steel Watch with Day/Date

As the Covid crisis stretches on and on, my opportunity to wear watches to work and other locations has declined. Yet, a few nice watches have still come my way.  For example, I chose this Citizen Stainless Steel watch to commemorate my fifth anniversary with my employer.  It has a cool silver-on-silver look that I've always found appealing.

The watch is nicely proportioned for a dress watch.  It has a case this just 8mm thick and a 38mm dial. It makes for an attractive watch that fits nicely under the cuffs of a dress shirt.  The silver-on-silver just looks competent and professional.  The watch is rated as water resistant to 50 meters or 165 feet.  So, it can bang around with most casual watches.

One aspect of this watch that isn't apparent from the Amazon description is that the bracelet achieves a two-tone affect by alternating flat brushed metal tone on the outside and an inner strip of highly polished metal.

This Citizen watch features a small but readable day and date window.

The etched clasp (shown above) is a nice touch and gives this watch a nicely finished look.  The 38mm dial diameter looks a little small on the wrist compared to some more casual watches.

Overall, it's nice to have a decent classic watch or two in your collection.  This Citizen Stainless Steel Watch with Day & Date is perfect for almost any occasion.

[Update:  It's getting hard to find classic Citizen watches like this anymore.  However, I did find one that comes close here on Amazon.]

Classic Metal Watches for Christmas

Classic metal. The phrase evokes images of Led Zeppelin and hard rock from the 1960s and 70s.  However, Amazon recently highlighted what it calls  Classic Metal Watches.  It's a great category of substantial watches from respectable manufactures that offer traditional masculine styles and metal bracelets.  The category made me reflect on some of the great watches that I have in my collection and some of the even greater watches that I'd love to own.  Here are a couple of  classic metal watches from my own collection.

1. Wenger Swiss Military Grenadier Watch.  I like the simplicity of my Wenger Swiss Military Grenadier watch.  It's a rugged timeless design that always looks good.  You can read my review here on this blog:

2.  Relic Moonphase Multifunction Watch. When you think of Multi Function Moon Phase watches, you think that you might have to go to France or Switzerland and drop a cool $100,000+ on a piece of art.  But, you can just go down to the Fossil outlet or search amazon and find this practical, masculine, quartz watch.  It's pretty awesome.  You can read my review here:

If you are looking for a great gift for a man this Christmas, you can't go wrong with an all metal watch.  These watches offer rugged good looks that will stand the test of time.

Recommended: My Favorite Armitron Stainless Steel Watch

Sometimes a watch just looks perfect.  It's the right size.  It's the right shape.  It's the right color.  It has a design that perfectly balances machismo with enough refinement to look nice in an office.  For me, my stainless steel Armitron (Model 20/4859GNSVBN) looks just right.  It has a classic contrasting silver on silver design that is an interesting take in military-inspired watches.  It's a classic!

My Favorite Armitron in the Garden of Good Watches
The only issue I had with this Armitron was that the original leather band was just a tad short.  So, I replaced it with an inexpensive rubber diver-style band that makes the watch look even better!

Here is my stainless steel Armitron watch in original form at Kohl's with the original leather band.  For only $67.49, this watch is a definite steal!
