Everyday Wear Watch: The Casio MRW-210H in Khaki

Everyday Carry (EDC) is a popular topic for men.  It generates lots of lists of things men carry everyday as they go about their business.  You'll find great suggestions for wallets, pocket knives, multi-tools, field notebooks, and even handguns.  But, what kind of watch do you wear everyday?

Casio MRW-210H in Tan
It's an interesting question because it touches on the watches we wear when we don't necessarily have to go into the office and when a late night run to the convenience store might be more likely than fine dining in the best of local restaurants.  The answers may also vary based on our professions and our hobbies.  Someone who works outdoors or in agriculture or construction may well want to choose a different watch than someone who has an office or work from home (WFH) job.

I find that I often wear a solar-powered Citizen Eco-drive watch or a quintessential bang around like the Casio MRW-210H.  It's easy to read, has a comfortable nylon strap for all day wear, and has a tough resin case.  I've reviewed this model of watch on this blog before here.  However, now, I also have one in an attractive desert tan and black design.  Of course, if you ask me what I'm wearing, I can always say, "Khakis."

This model of the MRW-210H has numerals that are printed flush on the dial rather than raised a little like on my original watch.  Otherwise, it still has the always useful rotating bezel and 100 meters of water resistance.

For all day wear and for use at a keyboard, this Casio is hard to beat for comfort due to its light weight and a lack of sharp edges or corners on the case or strap.

While this watch looks cool, it's not mugger bait.  It retails for less than $40 in most locations.  If it's not about prestige and just about looking rugged and telling time, this Casio is simply a great choice.

I was able to find a similar watch for a great deal on Amazon.

Watch Review: Casio MRW210H Diver-Style Black Resin Casual Watch

A Contemporary Bang Around Watch from Casio

I have a new bang around watch.  It's a Casio Diver-Style Black Resin Watch (MRW-210H-7AVCF) that I bought from Kohl's.  It's a simple, readable, rugged, and affordable timepiece that is great for everyday wear out and about town.

Casio Watch Design

The design of this watch is obvious from the photos.  It has a generously-sized dial with very readable numerals, a readable day and date, 24-hour time markings just inside the 12-hour markings and a bright white background to make everything readable.  When I first looked at this watch at Walmart about a year ago, I could have sworn that the bezel didn't turn.  But, now that I own one, I find that the bezel does indeed turn.  It isn't uni-directional like a true dive watch.  But, it will do just fine for more mundane tasks like keeping track of how long a pizza has been in the oven.  With 100 meters of water resistance, this watch can go in the water and won't need to stay in your shoes at the beach or pool.

Casio Watch Price

This black resin watch was engineered to a low price point.  But, the watch offers an awful lot for the money.  The first trade off is that you have a resin case instead of stainless steel or base metal.  The second trade off is that there is not an indiglo backlighting function.  The final trade off is that lume is limited to the hour and minute hand and is pretty weak.  However, you get an attractive, rugged looking design, and a rotating bezel. Here in it's original packaging at Kohl's, the Casio (MRW-210H-7AVCF) was listed at $39.99.  However, the department store chain is known for constantly having good sales.  We got a 30% off coupon in the mail.  All watches were on sale for 10% or 20% off in the store.  With all the stuff we bought, we got $10 in Kohls cash back.  All in all, we were out the door with this watch for about $20.  Considering that Kohls offers a much better shopping experience than big box stores like Walmart, that is a great deal!

Casio Watch Dimensions

Casio Casual Black Resin Watch (14mm thick case)
Over the years, Casio has offered many men's watches with small diameter dials.  Models like the Casio Forester and the Casio MRW200H have been reliable and affordable go to watches for years.  But, the trend in men's fashion watches has been to offer watches with bigger dials.  This Casio offers a 50 millimeter diameter case.  It's a watch size that just looks right on the wrist today.

Case Diameter:  50mm
Case Thickness: 14mm
Band Width:  Tapering down to 19mm

This watch also has a generous watch band length.  It fits on my wrist with room to spare.  Whether you are a young boy or a football player big, this Casio should definitely fit your wrist.

When you look at this resin watch strap, you can see that this watch has enough strap length and enough perforations to fit anyone.

If you are looking for this watch, you should be able to easily find it at Kohl's, Walmart, or on Amazon.  The Amazon price seems competitive.  It think this watch is a real winner.  This watch is a definitely a best buy for under $30.

New Casio Watch Model: MRW-210H Men's 'Diver Style' Quartz Resin Casual Watch

On a recent trip to Walmart, I spotted a brand new model of Casio watch.  At least, I hadn't seen this model before so it was new to me.  This new Casio offers a fixed, non-rotating, bezel diver-style watch.  I'm not a big fan of non-rotating bezels.  However, the dial of this sport watch is considerably larger and easier to read than the dial of the popular classic Casio MRW-200H dive watch.  The fixed bezel watch has a 53 mm diameter case while the rotating bezel has a 43mm diameter case.  Consequently, this new watch (Model MRW-210H) should definitely give Timex Easy Reader and Timex Expedition models a run for the money during this holiday season.

One nice thing about this new, larger, Casio model is that it still has a robust 100 meters of water resistance.  This should allow you to shower, wash dishes, and do a little swimming.  At this price point, you don't get a stainless steel case.  Instead this model features an attractively molded black resin case and bezel.  This material is pretty rugged and should stand up to years of use.  The watch comes with a three year battery.

If you are interested in going commando--at least in the horological sense--the new fixed bezel Casio watches also come in all black.  In this case, the numbers receive a silver, chrome, treatment.

This watch should be compared with the Timex Core Resin Expedition watch with has a very similar look.  You'll note that both watches have a similar look and provide an inner ring of numbers for the 24-hour time.  I'll post a review of the Timex Core Resin Expedition watch in a few days in order to provide a comparison.

If you are looking for practical and pseudo-tactical, these new Casio diver-style watches are definitely worth a look!
