A Classic Aviator Watch

I'm not sure where it started--perhaps with World War I inspired round dial watches of Bell & Ross.  But, now the watch marketplace is filled with classic watches that are inspired by aviation and adventure.

Watches like the Stührling Tuskegee Bomber offer a rich leather band, large face, and a chocolate brown dial with readable white numerals and a date.  You can almost envision wearing one with a leather aviators jacket and a silk scarf.  As tempting as the adventure can be, the cost of keeping up can be daunting.  In May of this year (2012), I found an interesting Merona quartz watch at Target with many of the same features for around $20.

In a rare display of self-discipline, I left it on the shelf.  But, it does successfully evoke those early 20th century adventurers.  I wonder what it would be like . . .
