Watch Wearing Wednesday: Izod Quartz Watch with Diver Style Markings and Extra Straps

Here's another men's watch find from Ross.  It's an Izod quartz watch with a diver-style bezel and false chrono dials.  It's an attractive and easy to read timepiece in the $25 or so category.

Of course, this Izod watch isn't really an enthusiast timepiece.  But, it does offer a cohesive sense of style, an  affiliation with a well-known brand, and alternative looks through extra watch straps.  The watch comes with a brown strap and is packaged with a dark blue strap and a white strap with a blue line.  The blue and brown straps are made of synthetic leader and the white strap appears to be silicone.  The watch has no spring bars.  Fixed permanent bars are built into the case and the straps merely thread behind the watch back.  It seems strange, but it is actually a good looking watch that is comfortable to wear.

Since we found this at a closeout store, the battery was dead when I tried to set it.  Fortunately, I had an SR626SW watch battery handy and I was able to swap out the dead one with no fuss and no muss.

Overall, this watch would look perfectly appropriate in a business casual work or school environment.  If you like the preppy look and preppy labels, you'll also be comfortable wearing the Izod brand.

Watch Wearing Wednesday: Rumours Men's Quartz Watch with Rotating Bezel

Sometimes wearing a cool watch brings great joy.  The watch doesn't have to be expensive.  It just needs to be cool. One of my coolest and one of my oldest watches is this silver-on-silver quartz watch from Rumours.  If it cost me $20 new, I would be surprised.

Why do I like this watch?

That's a good question.  It just seems to have a certain something, something.  First of all, it has Silver-and-Silver as a color palette and that is almost always good.  Second, it has a unidirectional rotating bezel which is perfect for timing pizzas in the oven and other important elapsed time activities.  I've posted on my criteria for judging cheap watches before.  This watch just hits all the right marks for me.

Watch Size Matters

The other thing that I like about this watch is its size and weight.  It doesn't sit high on the wrist and can fit under any cuff.  It's lightweight and you can wear it comfortably all day.  Finally, it has smooth edges and it doesn't dig into the wrist so it is comfortable.

Overall

This isn't a review.  You'd be hard pressed to find this watch on ebay or Etsy.  This is just a cool watch from my collection and a reminder that brand, movement, and pedigree aren't everything.

A Geoffrey Beene Watch for Men - A Style Bargain

There is one little problem with trying to wear classy looking watches:  they cost money.  If you want to achieve a certain fashionable preppy look, but you have limited funds, you might want to check out the watches of Geoffrey Beene.

I recently spotted this Goeffrey Beene watch in a Marshall's, Ross, or T.J. Maxx.  Yes, I can't remember which store it was.  All I knew was that I wasn't at a BassPro Shop.  But, this watch did catch my eye.  It looks sharp.  It has a slightly nautical flair and it was affordable.  But, frankly, I think Amazon has the best prices for these watches.

[In 2024, out on Amazon, I found this interesting looking green Geoffrey Beene watch with a cool pattern on the dial. It also came in blue.]

Of course, there are some drawbacks to cheap watches.  In exchange for a low price, you don't get rated water resistance, you don't get functional subdials, and the watch case itself might be a base metal.  However, you do get a sharp looking timepiece with a reliable quartz movement for $20 to $30.  That's not necessarily a bad thing if you are trying to look sharp on a budget.
